What is HYPE?

We are a grassroots movement working to make philanthropy accessible, build a culture of giving, and support the leadership development of community-minded LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies.

HYPE Grant Making

How does HYPE grant making work? HYPE donors not only contribute the dollars we grant, but also have a crucial voice in choosing grantees each year. Donors who give $300 or more annually become HYPE “Unicorns,” who are eligible to vote for grantees. Unicorns who want to become even more involved in grant making can join our Community Engagement & Grants Committee. With the support of HYPE’s amazing donors, we were able to grant more dollars in 2017-18 than ever before.

Since our founding in 2011, HYPE has granted more than $95,000 to grassroots LGBTQ+ organizations in the Bay Area. We are honored to partner with Horizons Foundation–the world’s first community foundation focused exclusively on the LGBTQ+ community.
