Over the past three years, I have had the honor of chairing Horizons Young Professionals (HYPE) for Equality, a group of thoughtful, wonderful people in the Bay Area who strive to make philanthropy accessible and exciting to all. Together, we develop as leaders, create community, and empower the next generation of philanthropists. When I joined HYPE in 2012, I never could have anticipated that HYPE would grow to be what it is today: a diverse and vibrant group of community leaders who together invest $30,000 annually into grassroots LGBTQ non-profit organizations.

HYPE has reached new heights in its giving, brought in hundreds of new members to its donor community, and now, is welcoming new leadership. I am thrilled to announce our new co-chairs of HYPE, David Craig and Nico Calvo Rosenstone. David and Nico began their roles as co-chairs in September and have already shown tremendous leadership and strong commitment to contributing to HYPE’s future and sustainability.

A native of the Bay Area, David lives in Oakland and is currently a Loan Administration Manager at Wells Fargo Bank. He loves spending time with his chosen family, dancing, drag, and binge watching his favorite TV shows. David brings a fresh set of eyes to the world of philanthropy and since learning about HYPE, he has dove right into the roles and responsibilities of being a leader for our community. David states, “I feel honored and privileged to be working with such an amazing group of like-minded, generous, and talented young people who are committed to giving back to their community in such a practical way. I could not be more excited about 2018. I am so grateful for the new friendships that I’ve forged and I cannot wait to see what great things we will accomplish.”

Since joining HYPE in 2016, Nico has shown a commitment to innovative leadership and building our HYPE community. Nico grew up primarily in Minneapolis and partly in Madrid, where his family is from. He comes to HYPE with a background in philanthropy and is currently the Communications Officer at the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund. He loves exploring Oakland, traveling, cleaning, and organizing (one of his favorite hobbies). Reflecting on his new role in HYPE, Nico shared, “it’s really an exciting time to be leading part of a new wave of philanthropy. The Bay Area is overwhelming populated with young people. This gives us a unique opportunity to help build and sustain a culture of giving, and most importantly, to show those in traditional philanthropy that there is a seat at the table for new ideas and young leaders.”

I hope you will join me in helping welcome our new co-chairs at HYPE events in 2018. I look forward to seeing you in the new year!
